Beaumont, Texas had its first Mural Fest in March 2022. I had put down the paint brush for about 15 years but was so inspired watching the impossibly large art going up at this incredible event, I approached the city afterward to ask if any walls may still be available. The CVB's then director connected me with my first client and first mural.
In September 2022 - despite feeling way, way out of my depth - I designed, negotiated and executed a 7,300sf freehand work in downtown Beaumont, for a refinery design firm. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), in 2008 I was among the construction surveyors who laid out one of this mural's actual elements - a coker unit - at the Motiva refinery in Port Arthur. Never would have guessed I'd be painting that unit on the wall of the firm who designed it. That particular survey job (200+ feet in the air) was where I overcame the fear of heights which would have made this very mural difficult.
I quit my day job, kept getting mural work, opened a store - and while many events and whirlwinds have since shaped life, I hope to keep doing exactly what I'm doing, if not always adding more to the mix. I hope this summer or fall (2025) to offer Little Big Art: Classes for Kids. Stay tuned and thanks for visiting!
